I was feeling a little bit confused and exhausted by the end of the day yesterday. I’m glad that I brought some American DVD’s with me because when I needed a break from the NZ culture, SKY TV was no help at all. I won’t go into too much detail, but I had an earlier conversation with the virile young fisherman staying next to us that disturbed me because I couldn’t tell whether he was being nice or rude or what. In our brief conversation he had told me all about his wasteful spending habits, called his girlfriend an f*ing woman, made some references about wealthy gay men that I didn’t understand, called us Yanks for wanting a 2 bedroom apartment so we could have a guestroom. I had to call my well-traveled friend in the US and ask her, “I don’t think he has any reason to like us, so why is he offering me food and drink?” I had declined his offer, but for some reason I was deathly afraid that he would come to the door all drunk and try to get us to eat the fresh-cooked fish. We were exhausted and ordered in pizza and passed out at seven o’clock.
My waking thoughts this morning began with marketing and travel. The woman in my dream was saying how it was funny that garages now had four levels: compact, subcompact, mini-subcompact, and the mid-level or higher that you automatically pay a thirteen dollar premium on. My automatic thinking kicked in and I started giving myself a long lecture about how pricing structures and capitalism work using airport luggage and weight fees as an example. Then out of nowhere a little voice said, “Hey dingus, you’re in a foreign country. Let go of this crap thinking and get out there and have fun. There are so many things that you wanted to do here.” So that became a happy thought and now I’m excited again to let go of old thinking habits and make some room for new adventure.
